Interactive Journals:
We will be adding things to our interactive notebook regularly. If your child is absent from class, they will need to complete the missing notebook work during pirate aide.
Late Work:
Assignments are due on the due date. If an assignment is not turned in by the due date it is considered late. Penalties for late work are:
First day: minus 10 points from the student’s earned grade
Second day: minus 20 points from the student’s earned grade
Third day: minus 30 points from the student’s earned grade
After three days (excluding weekends and holidays) the grade is a zero. (Handbook Pg. 33)
Retest for Assessment of Mastery of Skills:
A test grade below a 70 indicates that the student has not mastered the objectives or skills. The student will receive additional instruction in the form of individual instruction, peer tutoring, tutorials, additional practice, etc. A retest will be given to any student who fails to demonstrate the necessary 70% mastery. The average of the failing grade and the retest grade will become the new grade not to exceed 70. For example, if the failing grade is 50 and the retest grade is 100, the average of the two grades is 75, but a 70 is the recorded grade. (Handbook Pg. 34)
MAKEUP WORK:
Because of Absence For any class missed, the teacher may assign the student makeup work based on the instructional objectives for the subject or course and the needs of the individual student in mastering the essential knowledge and skills or in meeting subject or course requirements. A student will be responsible for obtaining and completing the makeup work in a satisfactory manner and within the time specified by the teacher. A student who does not make up assigned work within the time allotted by the teacher will receive a grade of zero for the assignment. A student is allowed one (1) day to make up work for each day he/she is absent. Work that is not turned in on the day it is due after an absence is considered late, and will follow the Vidor Middle School Late Work Policy. (Handbook Pg. 43)
